Great insightful and analytical post David as usual. Love your back of envelope P12M calculation to show the drop in the ocean business impact of digital social media. See here how we quintupled P12M usage on an FMCG brand with a century old formulation ( ie not much to talk about) using the oldest form of social media - people talking to people face to face. http://www.advocacy.asia/advocacy-wins-gold-wommy-2011.html. Real sausage here ! P12M, P3M, PI, SALES, ROI. All ticked Mate !

One should absolutely compare the activity in terms of page views, time and orders of visitors coming from FB to those coming from blogs/forums/newsletters.
This can shows the true DNA of social medias users.
