Hi David, 2 mistakes brand owners often make:

1.To ask consumers whether they think their brands can stretch into new categories and use this to justify their decisions. Of course, consumers in focus groups who have a positive view of your brand will often say ‘why not?’ This doesn’t mean you should.

2.To assume that the new category they seek to enter is sexier, easier and less competitive than their own. This usually isn’t the case. The grass is always greener….
