Jon, thanks for the link to the Economist article.

Jeffrey, If you want perfect grammar, you're in the wrong place mate. When you're writing 100 of these babies a year, gotta go fast, like, and so there will be some mistkaes on the way... all part of the charm....

And I do find it pretty damn funny that a guy with a website called restaurantworx is commenting on spelling ;-)

Normally I overlook bad grammar, spelling and punctuation, but you really need to re-read this post. I had way too much trouble keeping up with the ideas talked about while stopping and starting because of bad editing. Feel free to delete this comment once you've read it.

This is fascinating! I would love to go to a place where I can unwind my self and have a good vacation.

Hi David, great post as ever. The Economist had a write up on Club Med a month or so ago, which referenced its shift upmarket: http://www.economist.com/node/16793486?story_id=16793486. Sounds like your personal experience confirms they have the right strategy.

It feels like all inclusive is becoming more and more popular. I went to Ibiza this summer and the resort of Portinatx was pretty much all all inclusive. It has it's advantages, especially when you have kids and the exchange rate is not great, but you feel sorry for the local restaurants and bars (which appeared deserted most of the time). It feels like some local 'colour' is lost.
